Aspire to Inspire by AZRA MAHMOOD
It’s like the pressure of the society never ends, from your birth to your death you have to fit into a frame created by others and to make it worse that frame has been maintained by many for an eternity. Choose to live slightly differently and you are either tagged with “taboo” or a “survivor”, whereas one should learn to live and let live without being labeled.
Sometimes it feels like being born a female still remains to be an issue, that too a dark girl is another story. Initially I had decided not to get married, wait, what, how did I survive that situation, hahahahah well I did and it wasn’t easy – but then I found an amazing character that made me want to spend my life with him but that was when I was thirty “oh lord isn’t it too late to get married”. I rolled my eyes and thought are they ever happy, I hope all this pressure ends now, but it doesn’t as I said earlier.
Once the pressure of marriage is over, the pressure of motherhood sweeps in.
I Not having children is my choice, a choice that is backed by my wishes and desires and dreams and logic to live my life a certain way. And now the comment has turned into ‘মডেল তো বাচ্চা নিলে ফিগার নষ্ট হয়ে যাবে তাই নিচ্ছে না ’ or ‘নিয়ে নাও নিজের হলে তখন অন্য রকম লাগবে ’ one comment or the other but rarely a comment that actually respects the decision.”
Come to think about one the first child comes then the pressure of second and not to forget the bad mother taboo as well. Sweethearts it never ends it really doesn’t – so then why? Why should we fit into a frame that is actually a quicksand? A frame that makes one unhappy, a frame that makes you give away your wishes your desires and turns you in to something that at one point you don’t even recognize. So, break through the glass of that frame and learn to live your life YOUR OWN WAY.
